Angel Food Ministries [Sep. 2nd, 2007|11:18 pm]
Jason
My grandma's church started offering this a while back, and my mom eventually got into it. I think I'm going to take the plunge now.

http://www.angelfoodministries.com/

Their home page quote pretty much sums up what it is: "Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout theUnited States." Usually local churches will be drop off / pick up locations. You go up there the morning of delivery day and get your stuff and off ya go with lots of food.

In TX, for $25, you get A LOT of food, and for another $20ish you can get up to 10lbs more of just meat. Different states may offer different food/pricing per month, but this is the menu for August for TX if you wanna take a quick peek:

http://www.angelfoodministries.com/menu.asp?period=27&state=TX&lang=EN&submit=Submit

May not be for everyone, but with the way I've been stretching checks lately, just a single month of this would be more/better food than what that same amount of money has been buying me at the local store. It's meat, too. The only meat I ever buy is lunch meat for sandwiches or hot dogs -- everything else is just too expensive in my mind.

Keeping this one public.

...to me that some people are thinking that I just fell off the face of the earth, well, let me clarify.

I have not.

The journal was made friends only a while back, around May 5th. So, uhh, get a LJ account if you don't have one and then see if you can be added or something. I'm in the process of going through older entries and either friending them or making them private posts all together.

Winamp Discoveries [Feb. 26th, 2005|03:10 am]

[Current Music |Casting Crowns, 'Who Am I']

I was in another music heavy mood tonight. Wasn't finding much from the old Skillet album Randi mentioned, nor anything at all by Denison Marrs or The Echoing Green. =/ However, all was not lost.

I was browsing around some of the lesser-used parts of winamp and came across the media library, in which I found links to music videos, songs, and entire readio stations. Dude. Winamp rocks.

I had a 15 minute techno craving which was well satisfied after hitting up a couple of different stations. One of these days, I really want to listen to some heavy techno stuff while on ecstasy. I damn near fly with the right music without it, it'd be a real trip with it. Anyways...

Then I happened to spot 38th Parallel listed as 'inspirational' (I really should stop looking for Christian Rock), so started checking out what they had on them. I found the Horizons video, which isn't the greatest quality musically, but it did let me hear some things that I hadn't heard on the radio before. Neat.

They have an entire album by Mute Math on there...including Control. Awesome awesome stuff.

It's 3am, and I'm practically giggling with giddiness over my musical discovery. Heh. Going to bed, really, but download Winamp and do some browsing sometime. Lots of neat stuff on here!

Oh, go dig up some old songs you liked at some point. :) Tonight proves that sometimes it isn't about finding new music, but seeing/hearing old music in a new way.

In trying to keep my spirits up, I devoted today to fun. Playing games, researching movies, 'working' in fun ways, reading, and whatever else I could come up with. In that line, here's my greatest achievement today...

Yay! Steve rules!

After months of searching, and even a post a while back seeking help from readers here, the movie I've long desired to find has been found...what took me months, took him 10 minutes. Still haven't figured that out.

(UPDATE: Gah. Figures. While I'm searching every possible combination of 'alien + X', he searches for 'asteroids', which returns 6 results compared to the thousands I was trying to sort through. Common sense has never been one of my strong points.)

In 1994, CBS aired Without Warning. You can check IMDB's page for the info on it. I still remember scenes from the movie over a decade later, and it was this that put fear into me that still lingers. ::g:: It's been added to my Amazon list, should I ever get around to ordering again.

In my search, I found another movie I'd sort of been looking for, but not as intently as the other. Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County was a movie that UPN did around 1998, about a year before the Blair Witch Project. The had advertised this as a true story, and they had several experts talking about it through the whole thing. Apparently it caused a huge uproar (Welcome to the 90s, Mr. Wells!) and the network took a lot of flack for it. The link goes to a website with a summary of it, as well as some e-mails from the guy who did the original footage for the film (which explain how it was subsequently butchered). Very interesting stuff.

Mmm. Me thinks there's going to be a movie party if I can get myself copies of these. I've never bought a DvD for myself, but these two would be awesome. :)

How...? [Feb. 23rd, 2005|11:43 pm]
Jason
[Current Mood |crushedcrushed]

How should someone react when told that his father has 6 months to a year to live?

Shock? Anger? Denial? Frustration? Confusion? Nothing?

Dad starts chemo and radiation Thursday (tomorrow). $1000 for 12 days of chemo pills. I really hope his insurance is as good as he says it is, because we're already too far in debt to be able to cover that if something goes wrong with insurance.

For once, I don't have it in me to write a big post. My hope is running thin, so toss in what you can to the hope pool.

It's 78 degrees outside right now. It topped at 80 an hour or so ago.

...

Not that I'm complaining at all, but it's still February, yes?

I'm frustrated, more so than usual, but under the circumstances I think it's still understandable.

Of all the times in the world, something inside has decided that now is the perfec time to be lonely and to settle into one of those moods. Which sucks for those of you who do read, because it inevitably means a long dull post. After typing it up, I now realize that it has very little semblance of order or relation in it, too! Yay for utter randomness?

Well, I shan't disappoint.

Random T.V. Update [Feb. 8th, 2005|11:48 am]
Jason
[Current Mood |amusedamused]

Ahhh, it feels good to be back in my routine. T.V. shows have lined up nicely to have some of the better episodes (in my opinion!) falling together.

Yeah, random pointless update that serves no other purpose than giving me something to do for a few minutes.
